7 Sure Signs
It's Time to Sleep Train
|
My boys are now 5 and 7 years old, yet
they still keep me grounded and remind me of the sleep deprivation many of
you go through every single day. Whether it's a nightmare, temperature
changes and wild fluctuations (it's been a crazy year weather-wise, hasn't
it?), or illness, each of them has an issue crop up, sometimes. And, with
two, there is double the chance something will happen (the nights when both
get up are brutal!). After one of these such nights, sometimes I think I
have some form of PTSD, because it sends me right back to that feeling of
"Oh no! Not again! When am I going to be able to sleep? I am so tired
of feeling tired! Woe is me." And, then I talk to parents and remember
that I have been given the "gift" of imperfect sleepers to be
here for you
and I must never forget "this" feeling. Of course, teaching my
boys healthy sle ep habits does help keep our sleep problems in check. So,
as I was laying in my bed unable to sleep after my little one woke me up
over the weekend (he,
of course, went right
back to sleep!), I came up with these 7 sure signs it's time to sleep train
(and there are probably more):
1. Your baby has
red-rimmed eyes or bags under her eyes.
2. Your baby is
unhappy most of the day.
3. You are unhappy most
of the day. Let's face it, a happy mommy or daddy is much more on top of it
and a lot more fun!
4. You feel like you
may be suffering from PPD.
5. You are beginning
to resent your baby or feel like a prisoner in your home.
6. You can't go one.
more. day. like. this. (aka you're at the end of your rope (or tether for
International parents)).
7. You have
confidence your baby can do this, if only he would or you could teach him.
And, remember, have confidence in your
baby that she can
do this, so she can gain self-confidence in herself. Now, go to it!
There are so many sleep training methods
out there to choose from that it's no wonder that we talk to parents all
the time who don't exactly know where to go next. Meet Lissette, who
started down the path of Babywise (minus the cry it out) and tried some
Baby Sleep Solution, but still needed some help and support. We gladly
obliged, of course, and here's what she has to say:
"Hi Nicole & Staff,
I just wanted to
send a quick update to let you know that we are on Night 5 of our
Personalized Sleep Plan. The first night Sofia Grace took 20 minutes to
fall asleep and only woke up twice for her pacifier (much better than the
5+ times). The second night she fell asleep in 9 minutes and only woke up
once for her pacifier and the third night she fell asleep in 5 minutes and
didn't wake up for her paci. Last night was night four and she fell asleep
in 4 minutes and didn't wake up for her paci! Night four also meant no
rocking to sleep or paci after middle of night feeding and she did great
last night...fell right asleep on her own! We are making AMAZING progress
thanks to you! We are sticking to the plan and this is the most sleep we
have had since our sweet was born!
I also have a Mommy
Blog and would love to mention you and your services if this would be okay?
Thank you Baby Sleep
Site! I will keep you updated with our progress!"
-Lissette, Houston, TX
And, of course we love others to post
their stories on their blogs! You can read
